Planting Seeds of Kindness for the Next Generation
Inspiring children aged 0-10 through creativity, care, and imagination.
What is the Freya Foundation?
Launched in 2025 at the National Gallery, the Freya Foundation is a charitable programme of Pencil Tree CIO dedicated to the wellbeing and creativity of children aged 0–10. From joyful art sessions to poetry readings, we support a child's first steps into the world of imagination.
The Story of Freya Foundation
Growing with love, rooted in kindness.
The Freya Foundation was born from a dream — not just for a better world, but for a little girl named Freya Chen, the newest and youngest member of the Pencil Tree CIO family. She was just one year old when the foundation was launched in her name, on a bright spring day at the National Gallery in London.
Her birth brought new light, laughter, and hope to a family already deeply committed to creativity and compassion. As her small hands reached out for books, colours, and the world around her, so too did our vision expand — to nurture not only her future, but the futures of countless children like her.
The Freya Foundation was created with the wish that this charity would grow alongside Freya. As she learns to walk, speak, and dream, we hope the foundation will also take bold steps:
Creating spaces for children to play and heal,
Sharing books that spark wonder,
And sowing the seeds of kindness through creativity and care.
We believe that as Freya grows, she will help carry forward this legacy of love — inspiring others not with grand gestures, but with the gentle power of generosity, joy, and human connection.
One love. One name. A forest of futures.
This is the story of Freya Foundation — and it’s just beginning.
2025 Freya Projects – Deepening Our Impact
In 2025, the Freya Foundation proudly launched two cornerstone initiatives that reflect our commitment to children's health, creativity, and emotional wellbeing:
1. Funding Research Nurses at The Royal Marsden
We have committed to three years of funding for specialist research nurses at the Royal Marsden’s Paediatric Cancer Research Department.
These dedicated professionals support life-saving clinical trials and provide compassionate care to young patients and their families. Our goal is to contribute to a future where more children can survive and thrive beyond childhood cancer.
2. Art Therapy Programmes with Anna Freud Centre
In collaboration with the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families, we are helping to develop and support art therapy programmes tailored to children’s emotional needs.
These sessions give children the tools to process feelings through painting, drawing, storytelling, and play — building confidence, resilience, and joy in a gentle and safe environment.
